This fun, exclusive tour allows you to join in a real Aboriginal cultural experience, combining pristine natural beauty of the World Heritage Listed Daintree National Park.
A day you will never forget!
Experience our regions rich Aboriginal history and culture on this exclusive day tour from Cairns and Port Douglas. Travel along one of Australia's most scenic coastal drives as you head north of Port Douglas to Cooya Beach. (Kuku Kuku) This special place is a traditional fishing ground of the Kuku Yalanji people.
Join one of the Kubirri Warra brothers Linc or Brandon Walker on their beach, mudflat and mangrove cultural walks.
This unique coastal place has three diverse ecosystems - beach, mangrove and coastal reef - that are connected to each other by the ever-changing mudflats and tidal lagoons. Here you will be introduced to traditional fishing and gathering techniques with the aim of finding your own tucker( food). Your catch may include crabs, mussels and fish, which are cooked up for everyone to share with homemade damper on the balcony of the family home. The brothers demonstrate different Aboriginal artefacts and their uses.
We farewell the brothers and travel to the Mossman Gorge Centre for a delicious lunch, infused with local flavours and overlooking the Rainforest.
You are greeted with a traditional smoking ceremony. This ceremony is conducted by Aboriginal people with specialised cultural knowledge to welcome people to their land. It is a ceremony of spiritual cleansing, to ward off evil spirits and to ensure that while you are on the traditional land of Kuku Yalanji people you are accepted and honoured.
Mossman Gorge is a pristine natural wonder, and your tour guide takes you on a guided rainforest walk which will unlock the secrets of this fascinating ecosystem. You will see strange primitive plants and learn about their uses in both traditional and modern Aboriginal life. There's time for a swim in this magical rainforest environment before returning to the centre with time to browse the gallery and gift shop. Your day of discovery comes to a close and you are returned to your chosen accommodation.
You can choose to upgrade your time at Mossman Gorge to include the Ngadiku Indigenous Guided Dreamtime Walk. An Experienced Indigenous Guide will demonstrate the traditional plant uses, identify bush foods, and traditions on a meandering walk through stunning rainforest walking trails. A stunning insight into the unique connection of the local indigenous people with this land. Add-on this upgrade as an optional extra in the online booking form.
